At the insistence of a former tummy tuck patient of mine, this 43 year old mother of 3 visited my Southlake plastic surgery office interested in abdominal contouring. She was at her goal weight, and had a strenuous exercise program (running 10 miles per week, and weight training every other day). Despite these efforts, she could not attain the abdominal contours that she desired. She was bothered by skin laxity as well as the fullness in the midsection. One of her major concerns was the scar required for the tummy tuck, but she was less apprehensive after seeing the long term appearance of the scar on her friend. During consultation, I pointed out that she had a notable amount of fat deposits along her flank region, and she would benefit from liposuction to help contour her waist line. She had a high belly button with no abdominal scars, so we decided to perform a "top down" tummy tuck in order to avoid the possibility of the "inverted T" abdominoplasty scar.

During surgery, I removed 435 cc of fat from each flank region, and then proceeded with the abdominoplasty. I was pleasantly surprised by the elasticity of her skin, and was able to make the abdominal scar 2 cm lower than I had predicted pre-operatively. Her stomach wall had the same degree of laxity, so 8 cm of abdominal wall tightening was performed. A total of 440 gm abdominal skin was removed, and the operation was completed in less than 3.5hrs.

Her recovery was quite smooth, to the point where I had to keep reminding her to limit activities. Photos were taken 7 weeks after surgery, and show very nice abdominal and waist contours. Edema is still very noticeable at this stage (red indentations from elastics across the lower abdomen). She is back in her cardio regime, and will resume her weight training.
