Mommy Makeover

Having children is one of life’s most joyous experiences. But the physical toll taken on a woman’s body by pregnancy, childbirth, and breastfeeding can undermine her self-confidence. At 2301 Plastic Surgery, we specialize in a combination surgery designed to restore a woman’s body and confidence called a Mommy Makeover. Women in Dallas-Fort Worth cities like Plano, Frisco, and Grapevine trust our fellowship-trained plastic surgeons for excellent care and results from their Mommy Makeover surgeries.

What Is a Mommy Makeover?

Because pregnancy and breastfeeding change the shape of the breasts and abdomen, many women end up with lax skin, a tummy bulge, stretched-out breasts and nipples, and pockets of fat. Mommy Makeover surgery addresses these concerns in a single operation that combines multiple procedures, typically breast enhancement and body contouring. During your Mommy Makeover consultation, Dr. Bogdan or Dr. Cason will talk with you about your concerns and cosmetic goals and create a customized surgical plan that includes procedures that can create the results you want. Our DFW plastic surgeons are Mommy Makeover specialists who have the experience and training to deliver consistent results.

What’s Included in a Mommy Makeover?

A Mommy Makeover combines some of these popular procedures:

  • Tummy tuck—A tummy tuck removes excess abdominal skin and minimizes the appearance of stretch marks. Dr. Bogdan and Dr. Cason almost always tighten and repair abdominal muscles stretched during pregnancy (a condition called diastasis recti) that can cause a “belly pooch.”
  • Liposuction—This procedure is typically combined with tummy tuck surgery to remove excess fat and create smooth, contoured results.
  • Breast augmentation—Pregnancy can cause breasts to appear deflated, and patients often want to restore the breasts’ volume with breast implants. We also may recommend a breast lift to restore fullness to sagging breasts.
  • Breast reduction—Significantly enlarged breasts can make women self-conscious or restrict their physical activity after having children.

How Much Does a Mommy Makeover Cost in the Dallas-Fort Worth Area?

The cost of a Mommy Makeover in the Dallas-Fort Worth area typically ranges from $13,000 to $25,000 and varies widely depending on the procedures involved and the extent of the operation. For example, a combination surgery that includes a breast lift, breast augmentation, and tummy tuck will cost more than a Mommy Makeover consisting of breast augmentation and a tummy tuck. One of the benefits of choosing a Mommy Makeover, however, is that certain fixed costs are only charged a single time (such as the operating room fee). We provide a detailed price quote at the end of your consultation.

Mommy Makeover Candidates

Even though many Mommy Makeover patients are women with younger children, there is no specific age limit to get the procedure. The most important factor is that you’re in good overall health. Dr. Bogdan and Dr. Cason review patients’ health histories and conduct a physical exam during the consultation. Women who haven’t had children may also be good candidates for combining breast enhancement with body contouring procedures, as age-related changes to the body affect all women.

How Long Does It Take To Recover From a Mommy Makeover?

As you might imagine, your recovery following a Mommy Makeover depends on the specific procedures performed. We provide detailed postoperative instructions that help minimize discomfort and accelerate the recovery process when they’re closely followed. Here are general recovery timelines for popular procedures:

Tummy Tuck

  • 7+ days: stand upright
  • 10 to 14 days: return to non-strenuous work
  • 3+ weeks: wear a compression garment
  • 6 weeks: gradually resume strenuous exercise, physical jobs, and heavy lifting
  • 3 to 5 months: swelling subsides
  • 6 months: see final results; 90% healed

Liposuction

Recovery varies with treatment areas and individual patient factors.

  • 7 days: back to non-strenuous work
  • 2 to 3 weeks: resume vigorous exercise, strenuous jobs
  • Several weeks: swelling subsides
  • 4 to 6 weeks: wear a compression garment
  • 3 to 6 months: see final results (noticeably slimmer right away)

Mommy Makeover FAQ

Is Mommy Makeover surgery worth it?

Having cosmetic breast surgery and body contouring surgery in one operation can make the recovery a bit more uncomfortable than if you have separate procedures. However, the tradeoff is that with multiple procedures, you endure the inconvenience of multiple recoveries. Most patients believe the benefits significantly outweigh the disadvantages when considering a Mommy Makeover.

Is it possible to have children after a Mommy Makeover?

Yes. However, we recommend that patients who plan to have more children postpone any cosmetic surgery. Pregnancy and breastfeeding are likely to compromise the results produced by a Mommy Makeover.

Are Mommy Makeovers just for women who’ve had children?

No. Mommy makeovers can be personalized to the unique needs of any woman, at any age, who wants to enhance her breasts and body with a single surgery and recovery period.

Is it safe to combine more than one procedure in a single operation?

Our primary concern is patient safety. Dr. Bogdan and Dr. Cason will not recommend a Mommy Makeover if any doubts exist about your health. While there are risks involved with any surgery, our surgeons’ experience and training minimize those risks. Our surgeons have performed multi-faceted surgical procedures throughout their careers with excellent results.

What if I have small children at home?

It’s important to arrange for child care during your recovery because you won’t be able to lift even a small child for 2 or more weeks after surgery. We recommend waiting at least 6 months after you’ve finished breastfeeding before scheduling a Mommy Makeover. This allows your breasts to fully stabilize prior to deciding on how you want to enhance them.

How long does a Mommy Makeover surgery take?

Typical surgical times for the Mommy Makeover operation range from 4 to 6 hours. Dr. Bogdan and Dr. Cason are always mindful of surgical time to ensure patient safety.

Is Mommy Makeover surgery painful?

Understandably, having multiple surgical sites usually involves more discomfort than a single site. While pain experiences vary between patients, the tummy tuck is generally the most challenging part of the recovery process right after Mommy Makeover surgery. We prescribe pain medication, which most patients take for at least 3 days and discontinue within 5 to 10 days. After recovery, nearly all Mommy Makeover patients say their incredible results are worth any discomfort.

Can you finance Mommy Makeover surgery?

Yes. Qualified patients can take advantage of our financing options to attain the improvements they envision without a long delay.

How much weight do you lose with a Mommy Makeover?

Weight loss is not the goal of Mommy Makeover surgery. In fact, Dr. Bogdan and Dr. Cason recommend you reach your realistic, maintainable goal weight before having body contouring surgery. Many patients do, however, drop 2 to 3 clothing sizes after the surgery because they no longer have excess, lax skin around their midsections.
