How Does BOTOX Cosmetic Work?
When facial muscles contract, the skin wrinkles. As we age, these wrinkles become deeper and more prominent. BOTOX Cosmetic reduces or even eliminates wrinkles by temporarily paralyzing the small muscles that contract to produce frown lines and crow's feet around the eyes. BOTOX Cosmetic consists of a purified form of the botulinum toxin, which is safe and effective in very small doses when injected around small muscles.
Treatment will be individualized, but usually involves a small number of injections just above the central eyebrows and just below the outer brow into the crow's feet. It can effectively reduce the appearance of crow's feet, vertical frown lines, horizontal forehead lines, and neck bands. BOTOX is a great option for men and women who are beginning to show signs of aging, but are not ready for cosmetic surgery in Dallas.
The Procedure
Dr. Bogdan will begin your procedure, which usually takes about 15 to 30 minutes, by cleaning the skin and applying a topical anesthetic. He uses tiny needles, so there is very little discomfort, swelling, or redness. If there is slight swelling or bruising, ice is usually effective in treating this. Most patients find that they are able to return to work or other normal activities immediately after their Dallas - Fort Worth BOTOX injections.
It takes some time for the effects of BOTOX Cosmetic to emerge, but most people see results in 5 to 7 days. Effects typically last 3 to 4 months, though the wrinkle reduction effect may last longer, especially if you maintain regular treatments. We schedule patients on specific days to allow timely use of each reconstituted vial of BOTOX. Consultations may be scheduled alone or in conjunction with another treatment, such face lift or Restylane® injections. Allergan has provided a nice tool to see how BOTOX could work for you.
